About Lombardy Raceway Karting Club

Lombardy Raceway is the hidden gem of the Ottawa Valley motorsport scene. Located on the Lombardy Agricultural Society fairgrounds (just minutes from Smiths Falls and Perth), this 750-meter outdoor circuit is a dedicated driver's track. It is the home of the Lombardy Raceway Karting Club (LRKC), a non-profit organization focused on competitive grassroots racing. Unlike commercial amusement parks, you won't find neon lights or arcades here—just pure, high-grip asphalt and the smell of race fuel. While it is primarily a facility for members who own their own karts, the track offers public access through its popular "Arrive & Drive" Leagues managed by Nonstop Racing, making it the perfect place to transition from casual rental karting to real competitive motorsport.

Detailed guide

The Track Layout

The circuit at Lombardy Raceway is designed to teach and test racecraft.

  • Technical Design: Measuring 750 meters, the track is tighter and more technical than many large national circuits. It features a challenging mix of 9 corners, including a fast sweeper and tight braking zones that reward smooth driving lines over raw horsepower.
  • Surface: The asphalt is maintained for competition slicks, offering high grip levels during race weekends.

Public Access: "Arrive & Drive" Leagues

It is important to note that Lombardy Raceway does not offer daily "walk-in" rentals. You cannot simply show up on a Saturday afternoon and buy a 10-minute ticket. Public driving is handled through Nonstop Racing, which operates:

  • League Racing: Scheduled series (e.g., Wednesday nights) where the club provides the karts, helmets, and mechanical support. You race in a structured championship format against other drivers.
  • Racing Academy: Introductory schools for beginners looking to get their racing licence.
  • Corporate Events: Private group bookings can be arranged for team-building days.

Club Racing (LRKC)

For those ready to buy their own kart, the LRKC is one of the friendliest clubs in Ontario.

  • Classes: The club focuses heavily on the affordable Briggs & Stratton LO206 (4-stroke) classes, which are low-maintenance and highly competitive. There are also classes for 2-stroke Rotax racers.
  • Age Groups: Categories range from Cadet (Ages 8-11) and Junior (9-15) all the way to Senior and Masters (30+).
  • Atmosphere: The paddock is known for its community vibe, where experienced racers are always willing to help newcomers with setup and coaching.

Facilities

  • Paddock: A grass and gravel pit area where teams set up their trailers and tents.
  • Amenities: Basic facilities are available on-site. During race days, a snack bar/canteen is often open serving hot food and drinks.
  • Location: Its central location makes it an easy drive for racers coming from Ottawa, Kingston, or Brockville.
