About KartSport Whangarei
KartSport Whangarei is an owner-driver kart racing club at Anderson Raceway, 162 Austin Road in Maunu, and has represented the sport north of Auckland for about 50 years. The club runs scheduled race meetings, membership and registered practice rather than ordinary walk-in rental sessions, while travelling licensed karters are invited to enquire about joining a club day. People new to karting can visit on a race day to learn about the sport, but must arrange any “Have a Go” or supplied-kart opportunity directly instead of expecting a kart on arrival.

Anderson Raceway in Whangārei
KartSport Whangarei is the region's owner-driver club at Anderson Raceway in Maunu. The club says it has operated for around 50 years and remains the only KartSport club north of the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
A current New Zealand track directory lists the paved sprint circuit at approximately 525m. Race direction, configuration and class programme should still be taken from the event documents for the date.
How access works
- Club days: racing is scheduled and entered through the club's current event form.
- Practice: members and eligible visitors use the track under the club's registration and licence rules.
- Travelling karters: the club welcomes enquiries from licensed competitors wishing to join for a day.
- No routine rental: this is not an arrive-and-drive attraction with karts waiting for walk-ins.
Starting in karting
New visitors are encouraged to attend a race day, meet members and ask how to begin. “Have a Go” opportunities and any supplied kart or safety equipment are arrangement-led, so confirm the programme, eligibility and cost before travelling.
Before visiting
- Check the calendar: use the club's current race-day and practice forms.
- Confirm licences: ask which KartSport New Zealand licence or temporary permission applies.
- Verify equipment: owner drivers must meet the current class and safety rules.
- Contact the secretary: confirm access to 162 Austin Road and whether spectators or newcomers can attend.
