About Pro Karts Nelson

Pro Karts is the adrenaline anchor of the famous Nelson Fun Park. Located directly adjacent to the golden sands of Tahunanui Beach, this venue captures the perfect Kiwi summer vibe. Unlike serious club tracks that are hidden in industrial areas, Pro Karts is right in the middle of the tourist action. It offers a unique dual-fleet system: "Fun Karts" for the kids and casual drivers, and surprisingly serious Sodi RT8 "Pro Karts" for the adults who want to race hard. Whether you are on a family holiday or a stag do, racing here with the smell of the ocean in the air is a Nelson tradition.

Detailed guide

The Track Layout

  • Length: The track is compact at approximately 300 meters. While it isn't a long endurance circuit, it is tight, technical, and designed for close wheel-to-wheel battles.
  • Surface: Outdoor asphalt. Racing here in the sun is brilliant, but they also race in the rain (providing wet weather suits) which turns the track into a drift zone.
  • Atmosphere: The track is surrounded by palm trees and the buzz of the wider Fun Park, giving it a relaxed, high-energy holiday feel.

The Karts

Pro Karts splits its fleet to cater to everyone.

  • Pro Karts (Age 12+): These are Sodi RT8 machines with 200cc race-tuned engines. They are sharp, fast, and physical to drive. This isn't a "kiddie ride"—you can properly race these.
  • Fun Karts (Age 7+): These are easier to drive and speed-restricted, perfect for children or nervous beginners.
  • Two-Seaters: An adult (18+) can drive while a child (ages 3–8) sits in the passenger seat. This is the best way to get toddlers involved in the action.

The "Nelson Fun Park" Complex

The kart track is just one part of a massive entertainment hub.

  • Trampoline Park: A large outdoor (covered) trampoline zone next to the track.
  • Hydro Slide: A classic water slide that is open during the warmer months.
  • Mini Golf & Bumper Boats: Perfect for cooling down after a hot race.
  • Tip: Look for the "Combo Deals" (e.g., Race + Golf + Slide) to save money if you plan to spend the whole afternoon there.
