Epic racing adventures start here in Southland.

Invercargill is a city built on internal combustion. As the home of the Burt Munro Challenge and Transport World, it is only natural that the city hosts a vibrant karting scene. Unlike the high-grip racing found further north, the local style here is loose and sideways. The region features one commercial indoor facility for the public, while serious racers head to the sandy dunes of Otatara for club competition.

The primary destination for public rentals is Xtreme Karts in central Invercargill. This is not your standard "grip" track. It is marketed as the only indoor drift track in the region, featuring a specialized surface designed to make the karts slide. Drivers need to master throttle control and counter-steering rather than just hitting the apex, making it a "skills-based" experience that levels the playing field between fast and slow drivers. For the purists, KartSport Southland operates the Sandy Point Raceway at Otatara. This is famous for being the southernmost kart track in the world. It is a CIK-rated outdoor asphalt circuit used for national championships. While it is primarily a private club for kart owners, they do host specific race events and the occasional "Have a Go" day for potential members. Important Note for Dunedin Residents: Since Dunedin currently lacks a commercial go-kart track, Xtreme Karts in Invercargill (approx. 2.5 hours drive) or Highlands in Cromwell are the nearest options for Otago residents looking for a race.
