About Boyndie Drome
Boyndie Drome is the 850-metre outdoor home of Grampian Kart Club near Banff. It primarily supports members bringing their own karts for practice and racing, including licence-free Boyndie Drome Open Challenge events, but now also runs limited pre-booked hire-kart dates for drivers aged 15 and over using 390cc Sodi karts capable of up to 50mph. Kart Directory booking remains disabled.

Outdoor club karting at Boyndie Drome
Boyndie Drome is operated by the volunteer-run Grampian Kart Club. The 850-metre Motorsport UK-approved circuit is primarily an owner-driver venue, but the current programme also includes a limited calendar of supplied-kart sessions.
Hire-kart sessions
- Fleet: the club introduced 390cc Sodi hire karts for 2025 and advertises speeds up to 50mph.
- Age: every hire driver must be at least 15; a parent or guardian must remain throughout when the driver is under 16.
- Equipment: kart, suit, helmet and gloves are supplied, while fully enclosed flat footwear is required.
- Limited dates: hire karting is offered only on calendar-listed pre-booked sessions, not as daily walk-in racing.
Owner-driver access
- Membership: paid-up members can practise outside events when the calendar shows the circuit is available.
- Beginners: owner karting starts from age six, with introductory Let’s Go Karting sessions offered when volunteer resources and dates allow.
- BDOC: the Boyndie Drome Open Challenge provides club-level racing without a Motorsport UK licence, subject to club rules and observed safe driving.
- Licensed events: Scottish championship and series meetings use the relevant Motorsport UK permit and licence requirements.
Visitors and facilities
- Spectating: admission and spectator parking are free; visitors must stay within marked areas and supervise children in the live paddock.
- Race weekends: the clubhouse provides toilets, showers, hot food, drinks and snacks, with camping and paid electrical hook-up available for applicable events.
- No storage: the club says karts and equipment must be transported to the circuit.
- No directory booking: Kart Directory does not sell hire sessions, memberships, practice or race entry.
