About Lockwell Hill Karting
Lockwell Hill is the definition of "Old School" outdoor karting. Located in the heart of the Nottinghamshire countryside (near Newark), it offers a raw driving experience that indoor tracks simply cannot match. The circuit is part of a massive 60-acre Activity Centre, meaning you can finish your race and immediately jump onto a Quad Bike or into a 4x4 Land Rover. The track itself is fast, featuring a mix of hairpins and full-throttle straights that become incredibly slippery (and fun) when the British weather turns wet.

Detailed guide
The Track Layout
- Length: At 720 meters, it is a decent length for a rental track.
- Character: This is a "driver's track." It isn't perfectly flat like an indoor circuit. It has undulations, bumps, and kerbs that you have to learn to manage.
- Surface: The tarmac offers high grip in the dry, but because it is outdoors, it changes character completely in the rain, requiring smooth inputs to avoid spinning out.
The Karts
- The Fleet: They operate a fleet of 200cc Biz Petrol Karts. These are the industry standard for outdoor rental—robust, single-engine karts with wraparound protection.
- Speed: Top speeds are around 40-45mph, which feels very fast when you are inches from the ground on an outdoor circuit.
- Maintenance: As an activity centre, the karts are built for durability rather than qualifying precision, but they are generally reliable and equal.
The "Activity Centre" Bonus
- Multi-Activity Packages: Lockwell is famous for its "Combo Deals." You can book:
- Karting + Quad Biking (on their dedicated off-road forest trail).
- Karting + 4x4 Off-Road (driving modified Land Rovers).
- Karting + It's a Knockout (inflatable assault course).
