About Red Lodge Karting
Established in 1994, Red Lodge Karting is widely regarded as East Anglia’s premier outdoor karting circuit. Located just off the A11 near Bury St Edmunds, it is a staple for both casual thrill-seekers and serious amateur racers. Moving away from the heavily restricted, barrier-lined feel of indoor concrete tracks, Red Lodge provides a sweeping, 1.2-kilometre outdoor tarmac circuit that allows their high-powered 4-stroke petrol engines to genuinely stretch their legs. It is a venue built by racers for racers, offering a challenging mix of long straights and intricate technical complexes that reward bravery and momentum.

The Racing Experience
- The Track: The full 1,200-metre layout features 9 corners and incredibly long straights. The tarmac surface behaves exactly like a real race track—grippy in the dry, terrifyingly slick in the wet. The width of the track allows for genuine, side-by-side overtaking without feeling like you are going to get squeezed into a plastic barrier.
- The Karts:
- GX270 (Adults 14+): The flagship of the fleet. Hitting 60mph, these karts boast superb acceleration and require real physical exertion to muscle around the technical corners.
- GX200 (Older Kids/Adults): Capable of 40mph. Available for drivers aged 8+ who are over 147cm tall. This is the sweet spot for mixed-ability groups.
- GX160 Cadets (8+): Designed for the 119cm to 147cm height bracket, topping out at a highly respectable 35mph.
The Facilities
- The Paddock: It has a working paddock feel. On weekends, you will often share the facility with "Owner-Drivers" testing their own 2-stroke race karts, adding to the authentic motorsport atmosphere.
- Cafe & Spectating: A basic, functional coffee shop provides hot drinks and snacks. There are excellent, slightly elevated viewing areas along the pitlane to watch the action unfold.
