Strictly speaking, County Durham is an "Indoor" county. While it is sandwiched between two massive outdoor circuits—Warden Law (Tyne and Wear) to the north and Teesside (North Yorkshire) to the south—the tracks physically located inside the county lines are excellent indoor technical circuits.

The heavyweight choice for the county is TeamSport Stockton. Located on the Portrack Lane industrial estate (which sits on the Durham side of the River Tees), this venue offers a 500m multi-level track. Unlike many modern TeamSport venues that have switched to electric, Stockton retains a fleet of 200cc petrol karts, keeping the traditional sounds and smells of motorsport alive for purists. In Durham City itself, TopGear Karting (Gilesgate) provides a convenient local option. It is a classic indoor track located just a mile from the city centre, offering a tighter, technical challenge that is popular for children's parties and casual evening racing. Note: For those willing to cross the border for outdoor thrills, residents are spoilt for choice: the 1,200m Warden Law circuit is just minutes north of the county line, while the world's longest rental track, Teesside Karting, sits just across the river in Middlesbrough.
