Experience full-throttle fun in Merseyside.

Liverpool has recently become the UK's capital for high-tech Electric Karting. While traditional petrol-heads need to travel to the borders for their fix, Liverpool city centre now boasts two cutting-edge electric venues that feel more like video games than old-school race tracks.

The longest-established venue in the city is TeamSport Liverpool (Sefton Street). Located near the Brunswick station, this multi-level track recently converted its entire fleet to electric karts. It features a 475m layout that can be extended to 725m for member events. Crucially, it is one of the few locations to offer "Combat Karts"—an augmented reality experience where you race on a physical track but use virtual weapons (projected onto the floor) to slow down your opponents, bringing Mario Kart to life. The new challenger is Gravity MAX at Liverpool ONE. This is a flagship leisure destination located in the former Debenhams building. It features a high-speed, multi-level electric kart track designed by 360 Karting. It is slick, neon-lit, and designed for the "Instagram generation," making it perfect for a night out where racing is just one part of the entertainment mix (alongside AR bowling and darts). For North Merseyside (Southport/Ormskirk): Residents in the north of the county are best served by Kartworld Burscough (also known as Indoor Super Karting). Unlike the city centre tracks, this is a "grit and gears" venue located on an industrial estate. It features a 650m indoor track with a flyover and, crucially, still runs petrol karts, offering a more traditional racing experience for those who prefer the sound of an engine. For Outdoor Racing: If you want to race outdoors, you generally need to cross the county border:
  • Three Sisters Circuit (Wigan) is just 20-30 minutes east via the A580. It is one of the UK's premier outdoor circuits, offering twin-engine petrol karts on a professional 1.5km track.
  • Hooton Park (Ellesmere Port) is just across the water on the Wirral border (Cheshire), offering a rugged, technical outdoor challenge on a former airfield.

Common questions about the switch to electric and finding petrol tracks near Liverpool.

TeamSport Liverpool has switched to an electric fleet. This applies to both their standard karts and the specialized karts used for the "Combat Karts" events. This eliminates the exhaust fumes previously associated with the venue.

Kartworld (often listed as Indoor Super Karting) is the main track serving North Merseyside. It is located in Burscough and is popular because it retains petrol karts, which are becoming rarer in the region.

The closest major outdoor track is Three Sisters Circuit in Wigan (approx. 16 miles away). It is widely considered the "local" outdoor track for Scousers looking for high-speed petrol racing.

There is no dedicated commercial rental track in Southport town centre. Most residents travel to Kartworld Burscough (approx. 15-20 mins away) or head down the coast to Liverpool for the bigger indoor venues.

Available at TeamSport Liverpool, Combat Karts is an "Augmented Reality" game. You drive a real kart on the track, but the circuit has virtual items and weapons projected onto it. Collecting a "Turbo" speeds you up, while getting hit by a "Missile" physically slows your kart down for a few seconds.
