Epic racing adventures start here in Devonshire.

Devon is a stronghold for traditional motorsport. Unlike many other UK regions that have switched to electric karts, the major tracks in Exeter, Plymouth, and Dunkeswell all run on petrol. Whether you are looking for a professional outdoor grid or a weather-proof indoor challenge, you can expect the raw sound and smell of combustion engines here.

The biggest news in the county is the rebranding of the famous Mansell Raceway. Now operating as Dunkeswell Raceway, this premier outdoor circuit near Honiton remains the jewel in Devon's crown. Situated on an active airfield high in the Blackdown Hills, the 750m track is fast, wide, and exposed to the elements. It runs a fleet of Sodi petrol karts and offers a "proper" driver's challenge on the same technical layout that Nigel Mansell used to manage. For indoor racing, Raceworld Exeter is the central hub. Located just off the M5 (J30), it is an easy drive for anyone in East Devon or Taunton. Unusually for an indoor city track, it runs 200cc RiMO petrol karts, which are known for their heavy, mechanical steering feel. The 400m circuit features a flyover and is widely regarded as one of the best designed indoor layouts in the South West. In the south of the county, Teamworks Karting Plymouth (Ernesettle) serves the city and the Cornish border. This is another indoor petrol venue, running powerful Sodi RT10 karts on a tight, technical track. It is a complete entertainment centre, also hosting a large laser tag arena, making it the top choice for stag dos and parties in Plymouth. Note for North Devon: Residents of Barnstaple and Ilfracombe should be aware that the North Devon Karting Centre (Pottington) has permanently closed. The nearest major rental tracks are now in Exeter or Dunkeswell.

Go karting in Devonshire - FAQs

Common questions about the changing tracks in Devon.

Yes, but the name has changed. The track is now known as Dunkeswell Raceway. It is located at the same site (Dunkeswell Aerodrome) and offers the same outdoor track layout, but the "Mansell" branding has been removed.

No, North Devon Karting (Pottington Business Park) has permanently closed. There are currently no major rental kart tracks in North Devon. Residents typically travel to Raceworld Exeter (approx. 50-60 mins) for racing.

Raceworld Exeter operates a fleet of 200cc Petrol Karts. They have stuck with traditional engines to provide a more authentic racing experience compared to the silent electric alternatives found in other cities.

Plymouth Karting (Ernesettle) is the best choice. It offers fast petrol karts (Sodi RT10s) and has a laser tag arena on-site, making it perfect for competitive groups.

Yes, Grand Prix Go Karts at Dawlish Warren is a popular outdoor track for families. It is less "professional" than Dunkeswell and is designed for holiday fun, making it ideal for younger children and beginners.
