Track guide

Join Rich Tea Racing for a dynamic GYG Track Guide, showcasing both wet and dry laps at one of the UK’s most scenic and challenging kart circuits—Glan y Gors in North Wales. This detailed guide explores key overtaking spots, pro driving tips, and the unique challenges posed by GYG’s flowing layout and changeable Welsh weather. Whether you’re preparing for your first Club100 event or looking to improve your racecraft in mixed conditions, this GYG Track Guide provides essential insights for mastering this iconic track.

Driver notes

Preferred overtaking spots:
Overtaking is actually very difficult here, there are only really a handful of opportunities. Spoon curve at the top of the hill is the best in the Dry, as is the switch back down the hill into the Carousel. Take the correct line through the Devils Elbow, and you can set up a great move into the final corner in the Wet.
Pro tips
Compression Corner, the fast right hander just before you enter the Devil's elbow, can be taken flat, you just need to learn to live with the slide. Brake early into the Devils elbow to give yourself a wider entry line through the Esses. In the Wet, braking for spoon should happen on the inside and can be as late as in the dry too.
Kart review:
The kart used here are Club 100 2 Stroke Rotax Max. These Karts are technically rental karts, but don’t let that fool you, these are some of the best Karts available for mere mortals to drive. The power is one thing, the cornering and braking though is where these karts come into their own. Not every Kart is the same, some are better than others, but when you get that better one and it does everything you want it to merely by thought, you are truly experiencing one of the great Karting moments!
Value for money:
Club100 is a great experience, one that I truly truly love! It offers mere mortals the chance to feel like full on racing drivers with the power and handling the karts provide, so much more than any other rental kart can offer. However, it is not a cheap hobby and, with inflation, heading off to do these races is becoming more and more difficult from a financial perspective. Overall though, I would say it is value for money, just don't get bogged down when it does come out.

Inside track
GYG is my favourite UK track, not just for the track itself, but for everything else that comes with it. The location in the rolling hills of North Wales is amazing, from a certain vista on a clear day you can see Mount Snowdon, it is amazing! The little cafe at the bottom though is also such a vibe, with great food to boot. Staff are very friendly, unless you ask them for that Wifi, given North Wales signal it is hoarded like gold. Last time I was there in 2022 they were building new toilets, so when I return in 2024 it will be interesting to see what they've done.

Review
The GYG Track Guide highlights the difficulty of overtaking at GYG, with only a handful of genuine opportunities. Rich Tea Racing identifies Spoon Curve at the top of the hill and the switchback into the Carousel as prime moves in the dry, while in the wet, setting up an overtake through the Devil’s Elbow into the final corner can be highly effective.
Rich Tea also shares valuable pro tips: Compression Corner can be taken flat out if you’re comfortable managing the slide, while early braking into the Devil’s Elbow sets up a wider line through the Esses. Notably, in the wet, braking for Spoon should still be on the inside and can be left as late as in the dry.
Throughout the GYG Track Guide, Rich Tea navigates the powerful Club100 2-stroke Rotax Max karts—technically rentals, but offering performance that makes drivers feel like full-on racers. While not a cheap hobby, Club100 delivers exceptional value with its high-performance machinery and professional race experience.
GYG isn’t just about the track—the stunning North Wales setting offers views as far as Mount Snowdon on a clear day. The on-site café is a favourite for its relaxed vibe and great food, while friendly staff add to the experience (just don’t ask for the Wi-Fi!). With new facilities under construction, GYG continues to evolve, solidifying its status as one of the UK’s top kart circuits.
