Track guide
Join Andy Hicks for an exciting Shenington Track Guide, featuring GX-UK race action captured at Shenington Kart Racing Club. The GX-UK series, run by Access Karting, is an affordable and competitive start-up karting championship for those looking to get into owner-driver racing. This Shenington Track Guide offers key insights on overtaking, kart setup, and race strategy, making it essential viewing for anyone preparing to race at this fast and popular UK circuit.
Driver notes
Overtaking
The best places to overtake at Shenington are hairpin 1 (out of cafe corner) and in the run down to hairpin 2. These karts, are all about smoothness and momentum and planning - so you have to plan your overtakes carefully.
Kart review
GX-UK, run by Access Karting, is all about racing on a budget. The engine is a unrestricted 200cc 4-stroke Honda (used by everyone). Chassis-wise, you can choose what you wish, so long as it is older than 2018. Mine is a Rotax-based Chassis OTK Birel CRG. Tyres are Maxxis Sport slicks.
Value for money
This set up is both highly competitive, highly accessible and great value for all.
Inside track
Shenington is a great track - super fast. Food van is nice… Decent shower facilities also.
Review
The Shenington Track Guide with Andy Hicks highlights the best overtaking spots: into Hairpin 1, coming out of Café Corner, and the run down to Hairpin 2. In GX-UK karts, smoothness, momentum, and planning are vital, so overtakes must be carefully executed to maintain pace throughout the lap.
Throughout the Shenington Track Guide, Andy races in a competitive yet budget-friendly GX-UK setup—an unrestricted 200cc 4-stroke Honda engine paired with a Rotax-based OTK Birel CRG chassis running on Maxxis Sport slick tyres. Shenington is known for its super-fast layout, complemented by practical amenities like a food van and decent shower facilities, making it a favourite among owner-drivers.
