Big Bear Speedway Go Karts

About Big Bear Speedway Go Karts

Big Bear Speedway brings a touch of professional karting to the mountains. Located at the base of the Big Bear Snow Play hill, this isn't your average "mats and concrete" oval. The track runs a fleet of Sodi RT8 karts, which are widely considered the gold standard for rental karting due to their precision handling and "Whisper" Honda engines. While many visitors come for the winter tubing, the Speedway takes center stage in the summer, offering a 1/5-mile course filled with S-curves and hairpins that allow the karts to hit speeds of up to 30 mph.

The Karting Experience

  • The Machines: The Sodi RT8s feature adjustable pedals and a 4-point safety harness, offering a "mini-Formula 1" feel rather than a standard amusement park ride. They are gas-powered but surprisingly quiet.
  • Double Karts: For families, the venue offers double-seater karts.
    • Driver: Must be 18 years or older.
    • Passenger: Must be at least 42 inches tall.
  • Pricing:
    • Single Kart: ~$15.00 per race.
    • Double Kart: ~$20.00 per race.
    • Packages: Multi-race packs (e.g., 4 races for $48) are often available and can be shared among groups.

The "Other" Track: Alpine Slide

Confusion Alert: There is a second track in town called Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain (800 Wildrose Lane).

Difference: The Alpine Slide karts are generally slower, more traditional "fun karts" with a lower height requirement (57" to drive solo) compared to the Speedway's pro-style Sodi karts. If your kids are 10-13 years old, go to Alpine Slide. If you want speed, go to Big Bear Speedway.
