Unleash your inner racer across Virginia.

Virginia’s karting scene is a blend of high-tech indoor facilities and sprawling outdoor amusement parks. In the bustling corridors of Northern Virginia and Richmond, electric karting is the standard for year-round speed. Head to the coast, and you'll find some of the largest go-kart complexes on the East Coast. However, the state’s crown jewel lies near the North Carolina border, where a world-famous racetrack offers a karting experience for the serious driver.

For pure motorsport pedigree, the VIR Kart Track at Virginia International Raceway (Alton) is unmatched. Located on the grounds of one of America's most beautiful road courses, this 5/8-mile paved circuit runs ungoverned Honda GX270 gas karts capable of speeds over 50 mph. It is a serious track for serious drivers. Note: Unlike typical rental centers, this track often requires reservations or group bookings; always call ahead to check public availability. In the indoor arena, K1 Speed dominates the state. Following the acquisition of Autobahn Indoor Speedway, K1 now operates premier electric facilities in Sterling (Dulles), Manassas, and Richmond. These tracks offer consistent, climate-controlled racing with high-torque electric karts, making them the reliable choice for corporate events and leagues throughout the year. The coastal region is the capital of outdoor fun. Motor World in Virginia Beach is a massive complex featuring 11 different tracks and 250 karts, including a "European Style" Adult Speed Track that bridges the gap between amusement and racing. Just north in Williamsburg, Go-Karts Plus offers a similar family-focused experience with four tracks, including the new multi-level Skyline Speedway. Multi-Level Thrills: Fun Land of Fredericksburg boasts the state's first multi-level go-kart track, the "Thunder Speedway." This gas-powered track features three stories of elevation changes, offering a unique driving experience visible from I-95. Important Closure Update:
  • G-Force Karts (Richmond): This long-standing indoor gas kart facility has permanently closed its Richmond operations. The premier indoor option in the city is now K1 Speed Richmond.

Go karting in Virginia - FAQs

Common questions about karting in Virginia.

No. G-Force Karts in Richmond has permanently closed. For indoor karting in the Richmond area, the primary option is now K1 Speed on Carmia Way.

Yes, but it requires planning. The VIR Kart Track is open to the public, but it often operates on a reservation-only basis or requires group bookings. It is not a typical "walk-in and ride" amusement track. You must call ahead to check availability.

The facility is still there, but it is now K1 Speed. K1 acquired the Autobahn brand in early 2024, and the Virginia locations (Manassas and Sterling) have been rebranded.
