Go Karting in California
High-speed action awaits in California.
California is where go-karting began, and it remains the global epicenter of the sport. The scene here is split between two massive hubs. In Northern California, the wine country hosts one of the most prestigious outdoor gas tracks in the nation. In Southern California, the landscape has just been redefined by the opening of K1 Circuit, a massive outdoor electric "super-track" that complements the region's historic gas circuits.
The biggest news in California motorsport is the opening of K1 Circuit in Winchester (Riverside County). This is the first professional outdoor track built by K1 Speed, featuring a 1.1-mile CIK-approved layout with 40 feet of elevation change. Unlike their indoor malls, this track runs high-speed electric Pro-Karts (OTL E-Pro) that are capable of 80+ mph in competition spec (rentals are tuned for safety but still incredibly fast). It is widely considered the new gold standard for electric karting in the world.
In Northern California, Sonoma Raceway remains the king. Located in the heart of wine country, this outdoor track offers "California's fastest karts on California's longest track". It runs gas-powered LO206 karts that offer a raw, mechanical racing experience on a circuit that hosts professional drivers for training.
For history buffs, Adams Motorsports Park in Riverside is a must-visit. Operating since 1959, it is the longest continuously running kart track in the world. It retains its classic "old school" feel with a technical layout that has bred champions for decades.
Important Closure Update: CalSpeed Karting (formerly at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana) is permanently closed due to the redevelopment of the speedway. Do not travel to Fontana looking for karts.
