Go Karting in New Mexico
The ultimate destination for karting enthusiasts in New Mexico.
The New Mexico karting scene has seen a major shift with the recent loss of its premier indoor facility. Today, the best options for rental racing are found outdoors at extensive family entertainment centers in Albuquerque and Ruidoso. For serious owner-drivers, the competition scene remains active at dedicated motorsport circuits just outside the city limits.
In the Albuquerque metro area, Hinkle Fun Center is now the primary destination for go-karting. Located on Indian School Road, it features a 1/8-mile outdoor track designed for "Grand Prix" style racing. Unlike simple flat ovals, this track utilizes a twisting layout with bridges and underpasses to create a dynamic driving experience. It runs gas-powered single and double-seater karts, making it a staple for families and groups.
For a more robust racing experience, drivers often head to the mountains of Ruidoso to visit Funtrackers Family Park. This facility is a step above the typical fun center, featuring three distinct tracks: a "Pro Track" for adults (16+) seeking speed, a "Fun Track" for families, and a "Turtle Track" for juniors. The Pro Track is particularly notable for being a quarter-mile road-style course that strictly runs single-seater karts for a faster pace.
Competition Racing: For those who own their own karts, Suika Circuit (formerly Sandia Speedway) in Albuquerque remains the hub for competitive motorsport. While the facility focuses on supercar experiences and club racing, it hosts karting events for private owners on its dedicated circuits. Note: The "Baja Karting" off-road rental experience that previously operated here is no longer widely advertised as a daily attraction.
Important Closure Update:
Albuquerque Indoor Karting (AIK): This popular indoor gas track has permanently closed. There is currently no dedicated indoor rental track operating in Albuquerque.
