About Pit Stop Karting
Pit Stop Karting is the high-speed heartbeat of Cavendish's famous Sandspit Amusement Park. Located in the center of Prince Edward Island's tourism hub, this track offers a convenient adrenaline fix for families visiting Green Gables shore. Uniquely, you do not need to pay admission to the amusement park to race here. The go-karts operate as a standalone attraction accessible to the general public, making it perfect for a quick stop without committing to a full day at the fairground. Featuring a winding half-kilometer outdoor track and a fleet of well-maintained gas karts, it is a staple summer tradition for Islanders and tourists alike.

The Track Layout
The circuit at Pit Stop Karting is a classic summer road course.
- Length: At approximately 500 meters, it provides a solid lap time compared to smaller oval tracks.
- Design: The layout is flat and smooth, featuring wide turns that encourage safe overtaking. It is designed for "family speed" rather than professional league racing, meaning it is safe for beginners but still fun for competitive friends.
The Karts & Requirements
The venue uses gas-powered karts that offer that authentic racing rumble.
- Single Karts: For independent drivers. You must be at least 57 inches (145 cm) tall to drive these.
- Double Karts: These allow an adult (16+ with a valid driver's licence) to drive while a child rides as a passenger.
- The "Passenger Window": Uniquely, passengers in double karts must be between 42 inches and 57 inches tall. If a child is under 42", they are typically too small to ride safely; if they are over 57", they are required to drive their own kart.
Pricing & Admission
It is important to note that Go-Karts are NOT included in the standard Sandspit "Unlimited Rides" bracelet.
- Pay-Per-Ride: You purchase individual tickets for the karts at the kiosk.
- Race Nights: During the peak summer season, the track often hosts "Race Nights" (typically evenings from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM) where you can pay a flat rate for unlimited racing within that time block—the best value for hardcore racers.
Facilities
Because it is attached to Sandspit Amusement Park, you have access to a world of entertainment right next door:
- The Cyclone: Atlantic Canada’s longest roller coaster.
- Can-Am Racers: Smaller electric karts for younger kids inside the main park.
- Treats: Canteen facilities with cotton candy, slushies, and carnival food are just steps away.
