About WF Botkin Raceway

WF Botkin Raceway is the premier destination for motorsport in Regina and the home of the South Saskatchewan Kart Club (SSKC). Located within the Kings Park Speedway complex just northeast of the city, this facility is a dedicated competition track run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. It is not an amusement park; it is a serious racing venue that hosts the SSKC Championship and major regional events. While the track is primarily for members who own their own karts, the club actively promotes the sport through specific "Try-A-Kart" days and corporate rental packages, offering a pathway for anyone in Southern Saskatchewan to graduate from casual driving to real racing.

Detailed guide

The Track Layout

WF Botkin Raceway is a challenging and fast outdoor circuit designed to test the limits of driver and machine.

  • Specs: The track features a smooth asphalt surface and measures approximately 1,100 meters in its full configuration.
  • Design: It includes a mix of long straights where karts reach top speed and technical infield sections requiring precise braking and throttle control.
  • Facility: The venue shares grounds with a stock car oval, creating a true motorsport hub atmosphere. The track is equipped with a digital timing loop and safety marshaling posts.

Club Racing (SSKC)

The core of this venue is the South Saskatchewan Kart Club.

  • Classes: Racing is divided into various classes to ensure fair competition. The most popular is the Briggs & Stratton LO206 class (4-stroke), known for its reliability and close racing. High-speed Rotax (2-stroke) classes are also run for more experienced drivers.
  • Community: The club is non-profit and volunteer-run. It prides itself on a family-friendly pit atmosphere where members help each other with mechanical issues and driving tips.

Public Access & Rentals

It is crucial to understand that WF Botkin Raceway does not offer daily "Arrive & Drive" rentals for the general public. You cannot simply walk in and buy a ticket. However, there are two ways for non-members to drive:

  1. Try-A-Kart Events: The club hosts scheduled demo days where the public can pay a fee to test drive a competition kart with instruction.
  2. Corporate Events: The club offers rental packages for private groups, businesses, or parties. These must be booked well in advance and are the only time rental karts are available on the track.

Getting Started

For those interested in the sport, the SSKC is welcoming to newcomers. Spectating is encouraged, and walking through the pits on a race Sunday is the best way to meet members and learn what it takes to buy your own kart and start competing.
