Funpark Karting in Canada

While "Pro" karting focuses on lap times and apexes, Funpark Karting (Amusement Karting) focuses on the spectacle. Found in Canada’s major tourist hubs like Niagara Falls, Cavendish (PEI), and Wasaga Beach, these tracks are designed for pure family entertainment. They feature elevated spirals, heavy-duty "bumper" karts, and the unique ability for parents to drive with their children in double-seater karts.

The Canadian funpark scene is defined by massive structures and summer traditions. The "Mario Kart" Experience (Niagara Falls): The crown jewel of Canadian amusement karting is the Niagara Speedway on Clifton Hill. It is a massive, multi-level facility often compared to "Mario Kart" due to its 4-story helical spiral and coaster-style drops. Unlike flat tracks, drivers race up a 40-foot spiral ramp before plunging down a two-tiered slope. The Maritime Tradition (PEI): In Atlantic Canada, Cavendish, PEI is the undisputed capital of family karting. Venues like Pit Stop Karting (at Sandspit) and Burlington Go-Karts offer multiple tracks ranging from "Kiddie" ovals to the "Can-Am" tracks for adults. These spots are staples of the Maritime summer holiday, often operating alongside mini-golf and bumper boats. The Cottage Country Classic: In Ontario, the Wasaga 500 is a legendary summer destination. It boasts one of the longest go-kart tracks in the world (2km) and is famous for its retro, cash-only vibe and high-banked corners. Unlike the tight, technical turns of a pro track, these circuits are designed for wide-open fun and passing.

Funpark Karting — FAQs

The guide to Funpark & Amusement Karting in Canada. Discover the multi-level Niagara Speedway, family tracks in Cavendish PEI, and double-seater fun.

Yes. Almost all funpark tracks (like Niagara Speedway and Pit Stop Karting) offer Double-Seater karts. The driver typically needs to be an adult (18+ or holding a license), while the passenger can be as young as 4-5 years old (minimum height 40"-42").

They are speed-governed for safety. Most funpark karts, like those at Niagara Speedway, top out at 32 km/h (20 mph). While slower than "Pro" rental karts, the sensation of speed is heightened by the narrow tracks, elevation changes, and proximity to other drivers.

No. Despite being a major attraction, it is an outdoor facility and closes for the winter. It typically operates from Spring (March/April) to late Autumn (October), weather permitting.

To drive a single kart, you usually do not need a license, just to meet the height requirement (typically 58 inches / 147cm). However, if you want to drive a Double-Seater with a child passenger, many venues (like Pit Stop Karting) require the driver to hold a valid driver's license.

For adult/single karts, the standard is 54" to 58" (137-147cm). For passengers in double karts, the minimum is usually 40" to 42" (101-107cm).
