Feel the adrenaline rush at South Yorkshire's top karting venues.
South Yorkshire is a stronghold for "real" racing. Unusually for a major metropolitan area, the biggest indoor track in Sheffield has resisted the switch to electric, keeping the petrol flames alive. From the high-speed outdoor circuit in the city centre to the classic indoor track in Rotherham, this region is for drivers who want the raw noise and feedback of a combustion engine.
Main Description Text In Sheffield, drivers are spoilt for choice. TeamSport Sheffield (Shepcote Lane) is the city's indoor giant. Located just 2 miles from Meadowhall, it features a massive 950m multi-level track (one of the longest in the chain) and, crucially, still runs 200cc Biz petrol karts. This makes it a favorite for purists who want the sound and smell of traditional racing indoors. For those who prefer the elements, Parkwood Karting offers a 470m outdoor floodlit track near the city centre, running powerful 270cc petrol karts that hit speeds of up to 50mph.
For Rotherham & Doncaster: The primary track for this area is Avago Karting (Swinton/Mexborough). Established in 1996, this indoor circuit is a local institution that has hosted over 350,000 drivers. It is known for its "old school" layout, challenging corners, and competitive leagues.
Doncaster Residents: There is no permanent commercial track in Doncaster town centre. Residents typically drive 15 minutes west to Avago Karting or 20 minutes east to the outdoor Raceway Kart Centre (Blyton) in Lincolnshire.
A Note for Barnsley: Following the permanent closure of Tyke Racing, there are no commercial kart tracks left in Barnsley itself. Residents are best served by:
- Heading North: Wakefield Indoor Karting (West Yorkshire) is only 8 miles away and offers a modern indoor petrol experience.
- Heading South: Avago Karting (Swinton) is roughly 8.5 miles away.

No. Tyke Racing has permanently closed following liquidation. Barnsley residents usually travel to TeamSport Wakefield (North) or Avago Karting (South) for their nearest race.
TeamSport Sheffield currently operates a fleet of petrol karts. While many other TeamSport venues have switched to electric, the Sheffield track (Shepcote Lane) retains the traditional 200cc engines.
Doncaster has no track in the city centre. Most locals travel to Avago Karting in Swinton (indoor, ~15 mins) or Raceway Kart Centre in Blyton (outdoor, ~20 mins).
Yes. Parkwood Karting is an outdoor tarmac circuit that operates in wet and dry conditions. They provide wet-weather suits, and the 270cc karts are great fun to handle in the wet.
BattleKart is a new "augmented reality" karting experience in Sheffield. It combines electric karting with video game elements (like projecting bonuses and tracks onto the floor). It is less about pure racing lines and more about interactive gaming fun.
