About 61 Kartway

Located just outside Delmar, Iowa, 61 Kartway is a beloved cornerstone of the Midwest’s grassroots motorsport community. Completely shunning the commercialized, indoor "rental kart" business model, this venue is a dedicated, authentic outdoor proving ground for serious owner-drivers. Built and operated for the pure love of the sport, the smooth, technical tarmac circuit puts competitive racers to the ultimate test. Whether you are fine-tuning a Briggs & Stratton LO206 for the Ignite Challenge, wrestling a beautifully restored 1970s chassis in the Vintage series, or getting your 5-year-old started in the Kid Kart class, 61 Kartway delivers pure, unadulterated racing without the gimmicks.

Detailed guide

The Racing Experience

  • The Track: A meticulously maintained outdoor tarmac sprint circuit. The layout is smooth and highly technical, designed to be perfectly balanced—forgiving enough for young Cadets developing their skills, but challenging enough for experienced adults looking to hone their racecraft and passing maneuvers.
  • The Karts (Bring Your Own): Because there is no hire fleet, the paddock is filled with true, high-performance racing machines spanning a massive variety of classes.
    • Kid Karts (5-7): The track heavily supports the next generation, running dedicated Comer and LO206 classes with strict weight and safety rules for the youngest racers.
    • Adults & Vintage: You will see everything from spec Ignite K3 chassis to the "Legends" class (for drivers 50 and older), alongside heavily attended Vintage Karting Association (VKA) weekends featuring karts built before 1995!

The Facilities & Extra Attractions

  • The Grassroots Paddock: This is a pure, family-oriented racing environment. Instead of indoor laser tag and luxury trackside bars, you get a close-knit, welcoming paddock where competitors grill burgers and help each other turn wrenches between heats.
  • Championship Weekends: Even if you don't own a kart, it is a brilliant place to spectate. The venue regularly hosts massive race weekends, drawing the fastest drivers from surrounding states for regional showdowns.
  • Affordable Practice: For kart owners, the track offers incredibly accessible seat time. The ability to text the owners and schedule a private weekday test session is a massive perk that keeps local drivers incredibly sharp.
