Detailed guide

Karting at the Road America Motorplex

Road America Karting is based at the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex near the main Elkhart Lake road course. The outdoor facility serves public experience drivers, owner-drivers, schools and organised competition on different scheduled dates.

Public Karting Experience

  • Provided karts: selected 2026 dates allow newcomers to drive venue-supplied karts advertised at up to 40mph.
  • Race format: the programme includes one practice, one qualifying and one race session, each approximately ten minutes.
  • Driver minimum: participants must be at least 14, with a parent or guardian present for anyone under 18.
  • Limited field: each published experience date accepts a maximum of 12 participants.

Owner-drivers and competition

  • Open track dates: private karts use specified Motorplex time blocks rather than unrestricted daily access.
  • Kart Racing Club: 2026 rules cover age-based Kid Kart, Cadet, Junior, Senior and gearbox classes.
  • Racing school: a separate school route supports drivers progressing beyond the introductory public experience.
  • Wider calendar: endurance, club and motorcycle activity can affect which discipline is using the Motorplex.

Before travelling

  • Use the calendar: the public experience is not ordinary walk-in rental and runs only on the operator's listed dates.
  • Enter at Gate 4: public participants are directed to the Highway J entrance and should arrive before the scheduled start.
  • Bring suitable clothing: closed shoes and long trousers are required; full-face helmets are supplied or may be brought.
  • No directory booking: this listing contains no external Road America registration or checkout button.
