Go karting in Tasman & Nelson
Epic racing adventures start here in Tasman & Nelson.
In the Nelson-Tasman region, go-karting is a celebration of the outdoors. Thanks to the region's high sunshine hours, the local scene is anchored by one of the country's best outdoor rental tracks. Located just steps from the beach in Tahunanui, the experience here blends serious petrol-powered racing with a classic Kiwi summer holiday vibe.
The undisputed leader of the region is Pro Karts (part of the Nelson Fun Park complex) in Tahunanui. This facility is unique because it offers a proper outdoor asphalt track that is accessible to the public daily. They run a fleet of high-spec Sodi RT8 gas karts, which are known for their handling and speed (capable of serious G-forces in the corners).
The track itself is approximately 300 meters long, featuring a technical layout that rewards smooth driving lines over pure aggression. Because it is outdoors, the grip levels change with the temperature and rubber build-up, offering a more dynamic racing experience than indoor polished concrete.
For Families: Pro Karts is not just for adults. They offer specific "Fun Karts" (Sodi LR4) for children aged 7+ and Two-Seater Karts where an adult can drive a passenger (3+ years), making it one of the most inclusive tracks in the South Island.
The Tasman Situation: For residents in Motueka, Richmond, or Golden Bay, Pro Karts in Nelson is the primary destination. There are currently no commercial go-kart tracks operating in the Tasman district townships themselves; the drive to Tahunanui is the standard route for a race.
