About Bakersfield Kart Raceway
Bakersfield Kart Raceway is a cornerstone of the Central Valley’s karting community. Located off Alfred Harrell Highway near the Kern River, this 1/3-mile paved road course has been grooming racers for decades. Unlike the glitzy entertainment centers in town, BKR is a "pure" racing facility. It is run by racers, for racers, hosting competitive classes ranging from 5-year-old "Kid Karts" to 100cc 2-stroke engines that hit highway speeds. It serves as a stepping stone for drivers aiming for larger series like those at nearby Kern County Raceway Park.

The Racing Experience
- Club Racing: The track hosts a structured season of "Points Races," typically held on Saturdays or Sundays. These events follow strict class rules regarding engine type, weight, and tires (Bridgestone YLC is the spec tire for many classes).
- Thursday Night Thunder: During the season, the track often hosts "Thursday Night Thunder" practice or race sessions, providing a mid-week outlet for locals to tune their karts under the lights.
- Classes: BKR supports a wide variety of engines, but the most popular include:
- Briggs LO206: The affordable, reliable 4-stroke class (Senior & Junior).
- KT100: The classic high-revving 2-stroke air-cooled engine.
- Kid Karts: For ages 5–8 using Honda or Comer engines.
Facilities & Logistics
- Gate Fees: Expect a pit pass fee for drivers and crew on race days (pricing varies by event).
- Location: The track is located in the hills northeast of downtown Bakersfield. The entrance is off Alfred Harrell Highway—look for the kart track signage, as it sits somewhat secluded near the Motocross track.
- Amenities: As a club track, amenities are minimal. There is a grid area and pit spaces, but racers should bring their own shade, tools, fuel, and food.
